Common CBD - Cannabidiol questions
What is the difference between Hemp oil and CBD oil?
Both products come from the Cannabis sativa plant. The product which goes by the names hemp oil and hemp seed oil is usually cold-pressed from the hemp seeds. This oil contains Vitamins A and E, omega-3&6 fatty acids, carotene, phytosterols, phospholipids and minerals including calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron and zinc with only trace amounts of cannabinoids. Hemp oil is used in food, as a carrier oil for CBD and also commonly found in organic skincare.
Products which go by the name CBD oil and CBD Hemp oil contain much higher amounts of the cannabinoid CBD – cannabidiol. CBD oil is used in dietary supplements, for skincare and topical applications.
What is CBD?
CBD – Cannabidiol, is one of the many cannabinoids found in the Cannabis Sativa plant species. People all over the world use CBD for many different reasons.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are active compounds which are produced by cannabis plants. Cannabinoids produced in the cannabis plant are also referred to as “phytocannabinoids”. The human body also produces cannabinoids, better known as endocannabinoids. So the phytocannabinoids (from the plant) interact with the bodies own endocannabinoid system (ECS), supplementing and triggering CBD receptors naturally present in the body. The primary job of the endocannabinoid system is to regulate and balance bodily functions, such as metabolism, immune responses, hormone regulation, and more. By supplementing this system with CBD, you can promote homeostasis (perfect balance) across many system-wide bodily functions.
Does CBD Make you “high”?
CBD does not make you “high” or have a “stoned” feeling. THC is the compound responsible for such feelings.
Can I use CBD and function normally?
Yes, CBD does not cause any psychotropic effects (e.g. feeling high), so you can use CBD in your daily routine and go to work, drive a car, sporting contests etc.
Is CBD legal?
Yes! From America, to Canada, Europe to Asia, and parts of Africa. CBD is legal almost everywhere.
How is CBD used?
CBD has been found in many different preparations.
Food and dietary supplements: Tinctures, oils, gummies, chocolates, capsules, muffins, cakes, drinks and more
Skincare & topical: Balms, creams, moisturizers, body oils, massage oils, hair-care, muscle rubs and OTC preparations.
What does CBD do for my skin?
CBD can be effective in dealing with many different types of skin abnormalities. CBD works with cannabinoid receptors which form part of the endocannabinoid system which is present in all mammals. Cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 are found in the sweat glands, hair follicles and skin cells. CBD and these receptors help the skins endo-cannabinoid system to maintain homeostasis (perfect balance), which is what you want for naturally healthy-looking skin.
CBD can help with redness, blotchiness, uneven skin tone, blemishes, dry and rough skin, overly oily skin, repairing damaged skin, easing the effects of sunburn, controlling pimples and breakouts, calming aftershave irritation, soothing irritation arising from contact with plants and itchiness from bug bites.
How soon after using CBD products will I notice any difference or benefits?
This depends on many things. First of all everyone’s body is different and our reaction times differ from person to person. It also depends on what you are using the specific product for. From customer testimonials and dermatological testing we can see that users have noted results within the first 1-3 days of using the CBD product.
What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?
A biological system composed of endogenous cannabinoids and their corresponding endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) which can be found in the mammalian brain, central and peripheral nervous system and the organs. Its main function is to maintain homeostasis (perfect balance), within the body. It is part of a command and control network – biochemical communication between the endocannabinoids produced by the human body and the receptors which are involved in certain processes such as memory, coordination, pleasure etc.
Will I get high from CBD oil drops?
CBD does not make you feel “high”, neither does any other raw material produced from EU certified hemp plants.
What does full spectrum mean?
Full-spectrum means that the entire spectrum of compounds naturally present in the Hemp plant, are kept in the extract to create what many consider, and what science is beginning to show is the best possible way derive benefits from a Hemp extract. No compounds such as THC are entirely removed. Usually full spectrum oils contain up to 0.2% THC. This is a whole-plant extract and contributes to the entourage effect, it has been shown that when all compounds in Hemp extract are taken together, they work together synergistically to produce a result above the sum of their parts taken separately.
What is Pure CBD oil?
Pure CBD oil is made with CBD isolate. The CBD compound has been isolated, so there nothing except CBD left over. The Purest form of CBD.
What is C02 extraction?
C02 is a very well-known technique for extracting phyto-compounds in plants. This method has been used in the food industry and perfumery industry for many years to delicately extract precious compounds from plants and is one of the few organically accepted extraction methods since C02 is a naturally occurring compound.
C02 extraction uses pressurized CARBON DIOXIDE to extract different types of phytochemicals in plants like cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and more.
C02 is one of the most expensive extraction methods, due to its high efficacy and safety.
Is hemp, marijuana, weed, ganja, mary-jane and all those other names referring to the same plant?
In very general terms, yes. There are, however, large differences in all the different strains of the Cannabis sativa genus. At the time of writing this the number of species in the genus is disputed. Three species are recognized: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica and Cannabis ruderalis.
What makes each species different is the cannabinoid profile. Some have higher THC:CBD ratios and others higher CBD:THC ratios (these are usually referred to as hemp and is widely legally cultivated).
What is THC?
THC stands for ‘Tetrahydrocannabinol’ (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is well known as the primary psychoactive ingredient and this is the molecule which is currently not permitted in skincare and food products.
Is it legal to grow hemp?
Yes, there are certain varieties of hemp which can legally be grown for food and feed. The varieties of hemp permitted to be grown in the EU are listed in “Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species”, and for which THC content does not exceed 0,2% (Regulation (EU) No.1307/2013).

Yes, all our raw materials are tested by third-party labs to ensure purity and accuracy in terms of concentrations of cannabinoids.
Is CBD vegan / vegetarian?
Yes, CBD and all other compounds found in cannabis sativa (hemp) are plant-based and have no trace of animal products. 90% of our product range is vegan. Except the Hemp & Honey range which contains (honey) and some of our CBD balms, which contains beeswax and honey.
Why do you use honey and beeswax?
Honey and bees are very important to us and nature. And we need to support local organic bee farmers who take care of their bees properly. Without the bees, we would have many issues. We are ethical in our choice of beekeepers too, and our bee products come from local beekeepers who are organic certified and ensure the bee colonies can thrive through seasons by leaving sufficient Honey (not sugar water) in the hive for the colonies own use.
What makes Pura Vida Organic different from all of the other products?
Our products have been specifically developed for efficacy in specific areas of application. Our CBD skincare line was the first organic certified CBD skincare range, which is made with broad-spectrum THC Free extract. We believe that certification is very important in providing our clients and retail partners with the security and safety in knowing that our products are legal and contain the ingredients we claim they do.
